While one can exactly quantify the loss of money or property in the current scenario of economic meltdown, it is impossible to measure the emotional quotient of one depressed under such huge losses. The hurt, the mental anguish and the sense of worthlessness that comes with job losses do irreparable damage to the psyche often leading the sufferer to thoughts of suicide, and even to suicide itself. How does one protect oneself or one’s family or even friends from such a tragedy? Research bears out that as the rate of unemployment goes up so does the number of suicides. And it is imperative to address this situation- when in trouble, or see someone in abject trouble form support groups, ventilate frustrations to those who are trustworthy and will listen with empathy and without prejudice, have inter-active sessions- most of listen and heed-after all every life is of infinite value and put there with a sublime purpose.
